Who is Nissa Burkhalter?
Born: November 27th, 1980, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Made Her Film Debut in: Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Who would have thought that a drama/comedy set in the porn world would go on to become a mainstream hit, and has been featured in countless think pieces? But for you and me, it was something we watched, discussed and joked about. Basically, Zack and Miri Make a Porno will be mentioned every now and then in our household, from our future children.
As a pre-teen, Burkhalter enjoyed being part of The Groundlings in Los Angeles, a comedy group made famous by the likes of Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and more. Although she says she was extremely shy and even reluctant to audition for the group, she was a natural. So natural, in fact, that she was selected to join the troop.
The Rise to Fame
Growing up, Nissa Burkhalter aspired to become an actress. However, it wasn’t until she stumbled across an audition notice in the local paper while living in Hobart, Tasmania that she seriously considered pursuing her dream.
Nissa spent years pursuing her acting dreams in Australia, but by 2006, she decided to make the big leap and move to Hollywood to pursue her career. She told News.com.au, “After years of trying to break into the American market, my agent set me up with a producer who saw my work and suggested I send them a video.” It was the video that caught the eye of Kevin Abbot, the owner of Greenleaf Films, who suggested that she try out for the role of the daughter of Rhona Mitra’s character on CBS hit comedy, The Big Bang Theory.
